1996 MLS CHAMPIONS - D.C. UNITED

Next DC United Home Game Get Ready Galaxy!
The next DC United home game will be played this Saturday, August 9, when they head against the L.A. Galaxy. Many hope that the United will win with a large margin. Unlike the other earlier games they have faced, this time they will come out with a sure win. With the impressionable DC goalie, Presthus, the team will rebound from their near wins and fatal losses at home and in the road. Unfortunately, they are without one of their star players, Marco Etcheverry, because of heel injury. John Harkes had to sit out the latest game against the Colorado Rapids. As for Jaime Moreno and Raul Diaz Arce, they need to score game clinching goals. They lead the MLS pack with the most goals individually scored but they have not quite gotten the golden goal in some occasions. Either the opponents' goalies are playing well, or the DC forwards are playing poorly. There is only one way to find out...when they beat the Cienfuegos-Hurtado-Campos bunch this Saturday. I sure hope so! ...and GO Presthus!

With their trip to RFK, the red-hot Galaxy will show DC some real West coast soccer. Since their last meeting, where John Harkes almost got on Jorge Campos back for an exchange of words with Eddie Pope, there has been bad-blood between these two Championship teams. This Saturday will show how L.A. will come out in full force with all their starting line-up. If Mauricio Cienfuegos, Eduardo Hurtado, and Jorge Campos play, that is gonna be some game! Get your tickets y'all!

DC United...1997 MLS Champions?
That sounds just about right...DC United, 1997 MLS Champs. That'll be something, if it happens! With many contenders out to get the prestigious Major League Soccer Championship Cup, it will be tough for DC to take a sweep on championship games. Chicago Bulls?...I dunno. DC is no Chicago Bulls (anyway, that's another sport). But like any Championship team, there are champion players. As you know for the past games, the starting line up for DC is a strong one. On the backfield, DC has a 'wall' with US National team player Jeff Agoos; other US National team player Eddie Pope; Nigerian Ben Iroha. In the midfield, John Maessner (who also plays as a strong sweeper), Richie Williams, Bolivian Marco Etcheverry, DC captain John Harkes, and the new addition Roy Wegerly. As for the forwards, Bolivian Jaime Moreno and Salvadorean Raul Diaz Arce. In goal, there is Presthus or Garlick. Oh! and I'm not forgetting the versatile players, Tony Sanneh, Clint Peay, and Colombian Carlos Llamosa. Strong team, strong competition, but bland strategy! If they want to become a championship team, they gotta work together. Win games every week, keep their spirits up and do it for the fans. The fans, of course, are the loudest, most enthusiastic, and celebrated crowd in all MLS. The fans stand behind DC in the good times and in the bad. But mostly the fans want to stand beside the United, in the GOOD time...MLS CUP '97. Keep the cup in D.C.!

The Major League Championship Cup...DC has it now, who will have it next?!

Is this the player that will do the job? or is his counterpart, Moreno, up to the challenge?!
